What I do (and what not)

For a web presence you need three things:

  1. A domain name pointing to the web server. This is what your visitors type into their web browser to visit your site.
  2. A web server where your web site is stored.
  3. A website uploaded to the web server.

I can help you with any of these. Many clients just want a website and ask me to manage everything so that they can concentrate on their own business. Others want a website and upload their own content or want me to design the website and upload it to their own server.

Domain names - These can be registered by me on your behalf or you can do this yourself. When you register your domain name, make sure you can change name servers. Pointing your domain name to your site can otherwise be more difficult.

Web Server - Your website can be hosted on the server of your own ISP or I can host your website on the server of my hosting company.

Web sites - There are a number of website types I can design for you. Which one you need depends on what you want to do with your website. A number of examples are available on the Clients page.

For static web sites ( where the content does not change regularly): I use html/css and some javascript. This is the most common method for websites used to communicate contact details and information about your organisation or business.

For dynamic websites ( where the content changes depend on the visitors instructions), I use PHP code and a MYSQL database. This is used for websites where visitors need to interact with the website.

Content management Systems: I have used a number of systems, such as PHPNuke, Wiki's ( TikiWiki and MediaWiki). This is used for websites where visitors need to interact with the website and an easier way for adding content is required.

Blogs - I can provide you with a Blog (Wordpress) for you to keep an online diary.

Every website is optimised for MS IE and Firefox web browsers.

I design Flash buttons but NOT complex Flash movies or Flash pages.
